Trip to Focuscom!

Last week, Dan took some of the marketing interns on a trip to Focuscom, a public relations agency based in Downtown San Diego. We met up with Senior Account Executive Krislyn Smith and Consultant Nikki Jimenez (whom some of you may know also is part of the SDAFF family) to talk about what they do, how they got there, and gave us tips on how to manage relationships with professionals.

President Dan Hom briefly imparted his story of how he was able to create his own company, from using the success he had achieved from working at a well-known PR firm. By just being in the office, we can tell how passionate the firm is about what they do. All the questions we had were answered with a glimpse of hope for a part of what we’ll be doing throughout our internship at here at SDAFF. Thanks FOCUSCOM!

SDAFF Intern Introduction: Christine Hoang

Woke up bright and early today...why? To blog about myself of course! :P

If you haven't met me yet, you will... I'm Christine, one of the new SDAFF interns! Let's see... I like art, videogames, sports, reading, philanthropy, technology, writing, film of course, trying new things and meeting new people (and the list doesn't end of what I like)! And I love food...people are surprised how much I eat because I'm petite!

I currently attend SDSU as a Political Science major with minors in Psychology and Environment & Society. With it being my last month there, I look forward to the future and all it brings me, especially the SDAFF experience! I've had a little taste and I'm seeing how amazing this organization really is.

Oh and if you like stargazing like I do, you should download my favorite app -- Google SkyMap! :)

-Christine

P.S. I really did wake up early for this---my internet isn't working too well so it wasn't posted earlier :P

Meet Our Newest Intern Sophia Yuen

You may think that you see Sophia, our newest intern, around a lot, but no, that may be her twin sister, Stella. Coincidentally, they both moved from the bay (San Mateo)

While Stella was busy studying abroad and eating kimchi in Korea during the past year, Sophia stayed in sunny San Diego making the most of her year. Along with taking her courses and working on campus, she was an active member of the Asian Pacific Student Alliance, being on the executive board as the Director of Finance Assistant for one semester, Historian for the next semester, and finally Director of Finance her junior year.

Currently, she is enjoying her last semester at SDSU, taking it easy with the last of her courses, working a few hours on campus, interning at SDAFF (administration), and directing APSA’s annual Fashion Talent Show (April 7). Come say hi to Sophia anytime, but don’t feel offended if you get a weird look… it’s just her sister.

An Intern's Last Day

Nathan Tran is a truly special intern. He came to the Foundation just wanting to lend a hand and help out. He ended up creating the foundation for what has become the TimeWarner OnDemand programming that SDAFF now offers for free for all TimeWarner customers.

Nathan's enthusiasm, punctuality, accuracy, attention to detail, and professionalism have proven to be the strengths necessary to help create this program and make it successful for years to come.

Nathan is also an huge film fan and someone who is easy to work with. We regret to say goodbye to him as he is off to another semester at Loyola Marymount where he is majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Business Law.

Nathan, thank you for all that you did for SDAFF and know that you are part of our family!
