The Reel Voices 2011 premiere was an unforgettable
celebration.
The ten short documentaries produced by our ten talented students were
featured on the big screen of the San Diego Asian Film Festival’s 4th
day, the 23rd of October.
The theater was full-house and packed with
good energy! Personally, I felt like a proud mama watching the students in front
of the stage, receiving a great wave of applause at the end, and answering
audience questions like pro filmmakers. Also, thank you very much to the Reel Voices
mentors who made it to the screening! (filmmakers David Chien, Sara Newens,
Mina Son, and Bao Tran) The
students were happy to be able to finally meet with them face to face. As
students took time to sign autographs on the freshly burned Reel Voices DVD,
take photos with friends and family, and enjoy delicious catered lunch, the
special Sunday afternoon of congrats and cheers came to an end. (by the way,
thanks to Kenny Eng for the great performance during the reception)
This year’s Reel Voices was extra special as we had extra
number of students (biggest class yet!), a live-TV interview with Fox5 (thank you Nikki!), and a full-on production of the Reel Voices trailer… and more. Plus—how can I
not mention Mike Watson- he has once again led another successful year of Reel
Voices. Congratulations!
Some students wrote to me afterwards. Aw so sweet of you!
“It was the highlight of my summer (technically it was my
WHOLE summer), and through all the trials and tribulations, it was one of the
best summers of my life!”
“The experience was phenomenal and I got to meet so many
great people."
Missed our premiere or want to watch the films again? No
worries! View them HERE
And our photos HERE
We will miss being in class, having fun watching and critiquing each others' films, spending hours on end in the edit bay... but our journey does not end here! We will be
submitting our films to various film festivals around the world! Be sure to check back
to see where the films go-- what new stories we have--
So proud to have been a part of this. Best wishes to all the
students and everyone involved.
