REEL VOICES Graduate Wins Big at the Newport Beach Film Fest

As you may know by now the Newport Beach Film Festival is currently taking place up in the Orange County. We had an entry from our foundation be accepted for screening for their youth film showcase this past Sunday, April 26. The film, BILLY MARTINEZ, was made by one of our REEL VOICES graduates of 09', Laura ChauDavis. The films submitted were entered into a youth film competition, and Laura ended up winning Best Youth Documentary! Below is a blurb about her experience at the Festival:

"Came home from Newport yesterday with a wooden block in the shape of
the Volcom symbol, a foamcore check, and $300 in cash.

I had a lot of fun watching all of the different student films, there
was one in there that we saw at the Los Angeles Film Festival last
year, and a lot of really funny, creative shorts.

Anyways, thanks to SDAFF for submitting my documentary to all of the
different festivals! I would have never had the opportunity to go to Newport, let alone win an award."
